Xyston Shields vs. Essex Shields - Size Compatible?

Post by Mithras »

Hello, everyone.

Wife picked up a Gallic Starter Army from Essex. She would like to use transfers instead if painting each shield by hand. However, only options appear to be either VVV or Little Big Man Studios. Does anyone know enough about the Xyston shields to know how they compare to Essex shields? I ask because the only Celtic/Gallic shield transfers that LBM appears to make in 15mm are for Xyston figs, not for Essex.

Thanks,

Mithras

xyston are much bigger.

too big imho, to be compatible with essex.

stick to the VVV transfers, they should work fine, especially if you shade the shade before applying the transfer, depending on painting style of course.

I also prefer VVV transfers for certain shields (especially the Celtic ones). You are always certain that they will fit and you can combine more than one in the same shield. In the case of shields with the central spina it is very hard to cut LBM tranfers properly. In the other hand I have also found that LBM do not fit completely the shields in all cases. In particular I have had problems with the hoplites. It seems that Xyston increased the size but LBM kept the size of the transfers. Provided that the LBM transfers look better, I would give it a try. One sheet is just four euros and a half.
