Overlaps

Post by hazelbark »

Is there a limit anywhere about the number of dice that can be in overlap on the same side?

I have a recollection but can't find anything.

Not the number of dice.
I think it states that a BG can only be Overlaped once on each side.

The only reference I am aware of is on P86 - Overlaps - 2nd bullet point.

Check out page 86. The diagram shows 3 overlapping files for a total of 6 overlap dice. If you surround an enemy, you could have up to 4 overlaps (8 dice): 2 on either flank or 2 in front and 2 in the rear.

Actually if you read the black square you will see that bases marked A can not overlap B as they are in corner contact but are cut off by the LH that is on the enemies flank. So in your example you only get an overlap from the LH for 2 additional dice. I am not sure why the rear of B was not turned for a flank charge as it looks like the LH would have had to flank charge them to get into that position similar to what you see on the left of the diagram.

Actually it was the first bullet 1 file that I was looking for. Blindingly obvious now.

Agreed. Just so nobody is confused, in addition to the 2 LH bases (1 file) in overlap on the right, the cav on the left have 2 overlap files for a grand total in this theorical example of 6 bases in overlap.
