Chariots disappearing not part of rout points?

Post by peterb1201 »

Playing through the Gaugamela scenario a few times I have realized one reason it's so hard to win as the Macedonians (although I've done it). At certain times the chariots do a die roll which, if it fails, they are immediately reduced to 0 and destroyed. Unless I misread, I don't believe those destructions are charged against the Persians as rout points. So the Macedonians can destroy a bunch of Persian chariots but get no rout points for them (they WILL get points if the chariots go through the "R" state, but that doesn't always happen, as near as I can tell)

Has anyone else seen this?

Not sure exactly what you are seeing but what should happen is this:

Scythed Chariots(only) :
*do not add to your armies overall BP's
*if destroyed in combat or routed, they dont count against your BP's either

basically they are expendable shock weapons....

If you do see your army dropping BP's when they are destroyed/routed it is possibly a bug.

Also, there is no die roll. Scythed chariots automatically disappear at the end of any turn when they are next to a steady enemy unit. In other words, as long as they disorder people they charge (or others disorder them), they stay in the game.

Is it being adjacent to non-steady or non routed enemies that cause them to evaporate? i thought they had to rout the enemy after one full turn to "stay alive" but I never use them so......

Checked the on line help and it says this:

Scythed Chariots are removed as losses at the end of any player turn in which they did not charge or pursue and are adjacent to an enemy battle group. Scythed Chariots do not contribute to an armies initial army score or count as a loss towards its total break points.

This is different than the TT rule I mentioned above. I only use these useless units in big games where I've bought everything else and still have points left over.
