I want to do Ottomans

Post by footslogger »

In 25mm. I'm looking at the Assault Group figures. I love 'em.

A couple of questions:
1) are these usable throughout the period? or more focussed on a particular end of it? I'd be interested in doing something around the timeframe of the siege of vienna?
2) if they are appropriate for the siege of vienna, how many qapakulu can I have in the army? would they be based 2 per stand or 3, ideally?

(OK, I guess that is more than a couple....)

Based on uncertarin knowledge.

1683 is this period.

Qapakulu will be in I believe a maximum of 6. Bgs of 2-6 bases.
Normal basing is 3 per stand, but some 25mm clubs allow 2 per. Personally 2 per looks to thin

Up to 12 and no 2 base BGs.

Another pain for anyone (ie me) wanting to play fog in a groups where everyone has MTd based on 50mm * 25mm and foot 20mm*20mm due to WAB/GW basing.

it woudl have been so much better if bases were 80mm frontage
then all of the 4 figs per base would be perfect for foot and three cav would fit if on a movement tray.

Well they had to choose the GW player base or the DBx/WRG/Others that copied them player base.

I think their calculation on who would switch rule sets was accurate. Still notthing wrong with playing one less figure perr base and having a tray. I have played WAB people who use just that.

Excellent, I am glad I cannot be closely associated with your anti-dromedarian conspiracy.

I am not sure how many you CAN have, but I am not sure wether Qapakulu (if you mean the heavily armoured cavalry similar to the mamluks, not the "slave soldiers" as a whole, including the Janissaries) are still appropriate for the second siege of Vienna at all. Janissaries, of course, abound on both occasions.

They were probably some Qapakulu at the first siege in 1529, and as can be seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... na1529.jpg Dromedars were very much also part of the siege train then :-)

All of our ECW and Italian Wars 28mm were based for Warhammer. We have not had any problems with fewer figures per base. It is allowed in the rules in many cases. Also, fitting three horse on a 60mm x 40mm base is very difficult in many cases.
