Leaving a division

Chaps,

we had a game last night of a mere 1260 pts per side. On the Imperial left flank and large Cavalry Div advanced. After a triple move the left two Cav units came to a hill, this would then slow them down to 1" movement. We played it that the whole Division would then be restricted to 1" in the following turns until they were free of the hill. Have we missed something about troops leaving a division or does a division stay as a division for the entire game?

Troops can be split off from a division at any time, it is not permanent.
