Omaha Beach?

Post by gilles123 »

I'm probably mad - especially as I'm a complete novice! But I would like to recreate 'bloody' Omaha Beach. As one can imagine there are a lot of resources etc about Omaha. I need a big map as the front was some 8 km wide (perhaps I need to only concentrate via a linked series on particular sectors), backed by limestone cliffs and the sea/beach extended some way 250 m out (with only a few channels) which resulted in the troops and tanks being unloaded too far out etc.

Any practical thoughts and advice?

Cheers

Grand ideas usually never get finished.

Make one battle on a 20x20 map on any topic anywhere. If it works and plays well you have learned the first step.

Make around 10 more.

Then move up to larger maps with more forces, maybe 30x30.

Make around 10 more.

See if you still have the bug to do a 64x64.

I'm reading a book on game design and 10 is the magic number there ... the first 10 are the hardest so make them short and sweet and get them out the way is what they say.

I think its great to have something big to aim for but as the others say start small - one section of Omaha perhaps. If you need help shout up as there's plenty here who can help.
