panthers weak?
i'm not sure if panthers are quite sturdy enough!! have they been tweaked back a little,? or is it common for chaffee tanks to take them out from a off front angle? whilst moving at high speed, first shot(in m.p.).. it was supposed to be one of the best tanks of the war , and it just seems a little weak ... not just on that 1 occasion either, i mean, on a few different settings it seems a little lame.. it's the only nagging thing that i can see in the whole game,.. not that i'm as expert as you guys, but just expected a little more beef from this supposed 'monster'!! also does it make any difference if you shoot down a plane, apart from them not being able to attack on their turn..ie...does it take longer for the next airstrike? awesome game still playing waaay tooo much! and france exp. on the way!!

I've been looking at the behavior of armored unit's pretty close this past month for my new TrackHit mod.
I think the problem is how the player views the unit's "front arc". Like you said, beyond 45 degrees it's a flank shot, but since the unit isn't sitting on the tile exactly at 45 degree increments it will appear that a 46 degree angle shot is perceived as a front shot.
IMHO, the angles need to be higher and a "pop-up" text to show hit location(front, side, rear) would help. Example ...
Front < 60
Side >= 60 <= 120
Rear > 120
In my track hit mod ... I added pop-up text for Turret,Hull, and Track hit.
I know you can easily add text for Front,Side, and Rear ... however, this extra stuff floating around might ruin the drama.
If you guys ever add extra pop-up's, I think there should be a "toggle" button so players can turn off "advanced hits".
OR, perhaps adding this to the "tooltip", under chancetokill, called "HitAngle = Front, Side,Rear"

Bones,
The Panther was only a medium tank, supposedly the equal of a Sherman!! It had exceptionally heavy well sloped armour which meant frontally it was more difficult to penetrate than a Tiger. However to keep the weight down you had to pay somewhere, the side armour of a panther was no better than a panzer IV or a Sherman, in other words an easy kill from anything other than head on.
Does this make the Panther a poor tank? I don't think so by a long shot!
The tiger had much thicker side armour, Tiger's were not really very vulnerable from any direction except below.
I think the simulation in BA is excellent.

yeah, i think you're right.. it was quite powerful in ASL though.. i would say a lot better than a sherman, i've still got asl in the loft, so will check up,but i think i had in my head that it was a heavy tank, so thank you for updating my rather hazy mind .. it's been a long time since my ASL days lol! i too think slitherine have got all the rest of it pretty well nailed, as good as you can get (without adding the old trusty hexes)
it's certainly the best computer game i've ever played.. cant wait for a russian sequel , cos cross of iron was the most fun of all the squad leader gamettes, ..after that there too many rules and tables, which is the beauty of this game...it's all done for you. .. love the normandy skirmish (downloadable), although mine crashed last night, but it's the only time.
i think the t34c was where the germans nicked the idea of sloping armour from, and then applied it to the panther,.. is that right? hope this comes out on ds too! i've written a great review on amazon (uk)if it does lol! (it was supposed to go under pc, but oh well!)
