Beans. You need more light on them for the photo. Try facing a spotlight on them from the direction you take the photo. I was looking on the ancient forum for a thread on photographing figures which I saw once but could not find it, Perhaps somebody can throw a link here for you ? I think it also mentioned to take your shot from a 45 deg angle as opposed to face on.
