I have gotten the rulebook and the first lists and am beginning to digest the differences between FoG:AM and FoG:R and I think I have gotten most of it.
However, I am still trying to really get to grips with the differences between the various types of mounted troops.
Particularly, Determined Horse vs Horse vs Cavaliers. So far the only real differences seem that Cavaliers and Determined Horse have 2 dice in melee per front rank base, while horse have 1 deice per base in the the front 2 ranks. Also, Cavaliers must test to stop pursuing after losing contact with Routers.
Are these the only differences, or am I missing something vital? Horse seems quite cheap in comparison to Cavaliers and Determined Horse...
Thanks!

Those are the differences. After much play-testing we feel that we have got the points differential correct. Don't forget that Horse lack some of the advantages of Cavalry in FOGAM - notably, they cannot ever evade.edward wrote:I have gotten the rulebook and the first lists and am beginning to digest the differences between FoG:AM and FoG:R and I think I have gotten most of it.

I guess, like all games, I will have to play a few games to really get to grip with the nuances and subtleties!
if you've played FOG AM you'll pick it up quick and TBH I think its a great game and in some respects better than AM ie shooting, Infantry moving and deployment

And gendarmes are the same as cavaliers except that they have more armour, right?rbodleyscott wrote:Those are the differences. Pretty much, yes, except that they are usually Lancers and cavaliers usually aren't. (But sometimes are).LambertSimnel wrote:And gendarmes are the same as cavaliers except that they have more armour, right?

I've also just read through the rule book and was a bit confused about the same thing. From what I've read the troop types Gendarmes, Cavaliers, and Determined Horse are almost the same.
I found only the following points:
- Bow, bow*, sling and javelin have - against Fully armoured Gendarmes - BUT cavaliers or determined foot can't be fully armoured anyways.
- Gendarmes can't get Protected status - BUT to my knowledge armies with Gendarmes don't have Commanded Shot anyways.
- Gendarmes and Cavaliers must pursue.
Did I miss something?
