Turning at edge of table

Post by DavidT »

A situation arose twice in a game last night which we were unsure off.

A Bg of 4 LH is moving along the edge of the table. It wants to turn 90 degrees and move towards the centre of the table. The normal formation when it turns is to form a BG with 3 elements in the front rank and 1 behind. However, as the BG is at the edge of the table, when it turns the rear rank element will be off table. After the BG moves, it will be OK, but is the BG allowed to turn as, temporarily, an element is off table?

In other situations, if there is no space to turn, the turn cannot be made. I don't see that the edge of the table should be any different. I would hope this is the general opinion. I believe it is good to discourage play right on the edge of the table from a practical point of view.

They cannot turn. One of the few places where LH can get trapped. But then they'll just evade off.

I think if you have no space you can't move as the formation must be in place before you move might be better keeping formation 2 by 2 bases no worries then.

Clearly this rule has a huge bias against light horse and needs to be changed. Light Horse as it stands are a dying breed and clearly need a shot in the arm to be made effective.

Statements like this make the moderating team consider pulling one of your "Dave is correct" .sig lines.
