Tiles

Post by tim1966 »

Pip how do you make a 'meta' tile? I assume this means a bigger one than the standard size? I've done the graphic it's just the entries in the tile text file i can't work out.

Thanks

Urgh. Now we're going waaay back. I implemented the feature but I don't think Richard ever used it, prefering to build up the maps tile by tile.

IIRC you just need additional entries in the TILES.TXT file. Where currently you have the entries ending with _0_0 for each tile chunk you replace the values with the X and Y ordinates of the meta-tile. So you would have _0_1 and _1_0 and _1_1 for a 2x2 meta. All the other entries are the same.

so

[myTile]
TERRAIN_0_0 OpenGround
TEXX_0_0 0
TEXY_0_0 0
TEXTURE_0_0 0
TERRAIN_1_0 OpenGround
TEXX_1_0 1
TEXY_1_0 0
TEXTURE_1_0 0
etc

If it's not playing nice, then let me know.

Cheers

I assume you mean a 4x4 tile? The two numbers are the coordinates of the tile in the metatile, so you would want the values to go from 0_0 to 3_3. There is a limit of 8x8 for a metatile, which probably isn't documented anywhere! I promise once I get the next update out I'll spend a day going through the forums looking for stuff I missed in the docs!

Looking at the data, you seem to be doing that for the TEX entries etc, but not for the terrain ones, which is probably confusing the parser.

e.g. look at the difference between the _3_0 and _4_0 C+P from your post:

TERRAIN_3_0 Openground
TEXX_3_0 2
TEXY_3_0 6
TEXTURE_3_0 0
TERRAIN_4_0 Openground
TEXX_0_1 3
TEXY_0_1 3
TEXTURE_0_0 0

Hope that helps!

Pip
