What works in other games, might not work or be needed here

This old grognard has played a lot of games, some outright garbage some really good designs.

Some times the game is simply using the wrong method. And stumbles only for that reason.

Sometimes its really just the scope of action is either very right or very wrong.

BBC BA is currently not 100% perfect, but it's hard to be perfect in everything.

Not real time, and I am glad of that. Real time would kill this game.
Not WEGO and maybe WEGO would be nice, but the game does support a sort of Chess like quality where you simply need to master the right moves.

The maps are small enough you can't be overwhelmed by quantity. Much as I love Steel Panthers, sometimes there are just too many units to move around and in a useful fashion. I think BBC BA has a better handle of force size. I always liked the smaller engagements in some of the Steel Panthers battles more so than the larger ones.

The force pool is such you really DO need to think out your moves seriously.

Some of the moves seem 'unrealistic' 'gamey' as well. Sadly that's the thing with any game, reality is not possible, you eventually have to give up something. I think shoot and scoot is ok, but I am sure some tweaks are coming soon. Some of the shoot and scoot can seem a bit out of whack.

Sometimes you just need to play both sides of a map to see what is there, what their opening moves will be, to best know what to do with both sides.
To that end, I suggest everyone offer generous sums of challenges to both sides as soon as possible. Repeat playings of one side only is not going to make you a great deal better on that one side faster than just playing both sides once to begin with.

I normally loath games that have no open ended auto generated random maps. Normally those give you the most replay value. Normally.
But I have been playing the multi player maps intensely on both sides, and I can state for the record, you WILL need to play each side a LOT of times before you even get close to wearing them out.
There's slow advances, fast advances, all up one side, all in with total aggression, and cautious styles for each side. Some are better than others for differing reasons for each side.
Some terrain favours some sides more than others, and sometimes it's all about the support you get for that side.
Bombers and big guns sounds fine, but being able to return a key unit with medic is nothing to sneeze at. Losing a mortar is a problem, bringing a damaged one back can be the difference between winning and losing.

I NEVER played multi player before this game. I can't think of even playing any other way with this one. I am sure there will be user created campaigns I will want to try, but mainly if no one is currently open for a game.

So much of BBC BA seems to have scored a direct hit with me.
