Iran joining the allies

Post by afk_nero »

Hi,

I ont know if I am in favour of Iran Automatically joining with the allies and having its troops available for operations. Can we not rather put conditions on this - for example if Iraq is entered they automatically join in.

The reason for this is that I have found Persian troops arriving in all theaters of the War from Russia to Western Europe (which I dont think is historical).

THe other reason is the ease at which you can push other allied troops into Southern Russia - which from what I can understand, the russians would not have wanted other countries joining in there fight.

Having Iran neutral until Iraq is threatened would prevent this but would also ensure that Iran does join in when threatened. Similar to the current Vichy situation.

ANy other comments on this.

That is not what happened historically. I propose you read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Sovi ... on_of_Iran

In GS this is linked to the start of Barbarossa because it was after Barbarossa it was necessary for the Allies to open the southern supply route to Russia to prevent the Axis from conquering Russia.

The British needed to secure the Persian oilfields because the Persian shah has pro-Axis tendencies.

The entire invasion was completed in just over 20 days. That is one game turn in GS. It's impossible to simulate such a swift collapse of Persia and since Persia has so high oil value a regular GS Allied DoW upon Persia would give the Axis too much extra oil until Teheran was conquered. So we decided to simulate this swift invasion linked to Barbarossa by letting Persia join the Allies and setting up the southern convoy route from Britain to Russia.

We made earlier changes to the supply rule so Allied units operating in USSR and Russian units in Allied territory will have one supply level lower than normal. That means you can't rail units within the other side of the border. We even reduced the number of Persian units and the type (mostly garrisons now) so Persian units won't be used for other than garrisoning cities.

The Anglo-Soviet invasion of Persia was NOT linked to an Axis presence in Iraq.

Thanks Stauffenberg,

I agree with the current situation now, after the explanation.
