New range of 28mm Biblical figures: Cutting Edge Miniatures

Post by FOGwargames »

Thought you guys might be interested in a new line of 28mm Biblical figures I have just brought out. The range initially covers the Ancient Near East of the Middle and Early Bronze Age. Expansion to the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age will follow in due course.

That is a very fine mini indeed. The roll out of their product line is unusual. A teaser, I guess. Perhaps they will make a Judith personality figure?

But we can only see one figure Pete. And there is no listing or catalogue. Or at least not one that is easy to find on the site. I did fancy the "Music of the Sumerians" tho on the books page. Is it a live recording.

Judith is a character from the most famous biblical era film ever made.

I did find some figures in the end. I had to put 'spear' in the search box tho. Not the best of home pages yet.

Found it. Click on the left of the home page on the era you want. There is then a long description, then some pictures. All to long to bother with in this age. But if you click where the image is then you get the figs.

When do we get the chariots? I fancy some Hittite ones.

Phil, I can't believe you found it that difficult? :-) Just find the era you want, pick the army you want and then the figure code you want. You can blow up the figure pics in the figure description.
I don't know, you low techies. :-) Cheers Phil, see you at the club next week, Pete

A few months at least for the chariots. There will be early ones first and later Hittite ones

Pete, you forget, people on the internet are in the main LAZY. If it is not immediately obvious they can't be arsed. They can't be bothered to read all the words, just the big ones. Why should I try hard, well try at all, to buy something? The vendor should try harder and make it easier for me.

I disagree. I think if you are into history as well as figure gaming then you will be interested in the text. People have already found it useful in building up an army. If you don't want to read it, skip it and go straight to the picture of the figure. As you know this is a new venture and will involve a learning curve. Saying that, one can't please everyone and many already like the website, but not all. What can you do, change everything to suit some people and not others. I didn't think you played 28mm anyway?

Judith?
"The Book of Judith has a tragic setting that appealed to Jewish patriots and it warned of the urgency of adhering to Mosaic Law, generally speaking, but what accounted for its enduring appeal was the drama of its narrative. The story revolves on Judith, a daring and beautiful widow, who is upset with her Jewish countrymen for not trusting God to deliver them from their foreign conquerors. She goes with her loyal maid to the camp of the enemy general, Holofernes, to whom she slowly ingratiates herself, promising him information on the Israelites. Gaining his trust, she is allowed access to his tent one night as he lies in a drunken stupor. She decapitates him, then takes his head back to her fearful countrymen. The Assyrians, having lost their leader, disperse, and Israel is saved. Though she is courted by many, she remains unmarried for the rest of her life."

Wouldn't it be in a vendor's interest to have a web site that might entice him to start?

FWIW I think a link from some of the big text or the picture on that first page going to the full range would make it more accessible - easy to implement.

I think some folks here are being very silly or unfair. I have been waiting 20 years for range like this in 28mm. The guy has just opened and should be given a break. If you are lazy it means you are not into the period anyway. I am computer poor and I found it easy to look round. Come on play fair. This venture must have taken effort in a big way.

Hammurabi. I am sure that it did take a lot of effort. I am just putting myself in the position of Mr Average, who may or may not be interested. If you make it easier Mr A is more likely to become interested. I took a couple of minutes to find what I wanted to look at. Thats not a problem to me. I am very computer literate. To others it may be 2 more seconds where they can find something else to do.

I intended it as constructive criticism. Whereas Pete's models cannot be criticised. However his play still leaves a lot to be desired.

Though he was on his way to spanking a Dom Rom on Monday with some Sea People biblical rubbish before I left him.

"However his play still leaves a lot to be desired".
Ha Ha. I suppose you won every game of your first 8 games. If I had beaten you on my fourth game, what would that have said about your game play? :-)
As to the website, did you not think that I asked for constructive criticism from a lot of people before launch? Of course I did. The response was that it was easy and clear to use. As you know I am not an IT wizard so I can only use what is available to me on the site. It is not up to professional standard as yet. I can recommend a computer course for you though Phil. :-)
Anyway, chat to you at the club.

"SHOP IS OPEN DURING AUGUST 2010 FOR A PREVIEW PERIOD ONLY. SOME PRODUCTS WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THIS PERIOD. THE SHOP WILL THEN CLOSE FOR SOME PART OF SEPTEMBER 2010 FOR A REVIEW AND RE-STOCK."

Perhaps army preorders would be an additional way to help you get an idea of necessary stock levels, as well as some additional cash flow for the startup?

Beautifully designed ranges. A labor of love I think.

The Hyksos in particular are impressive, as are the early highlanders.

You should announce these releases on The Miniatures Page as well. 28mm is a tough row to hoe, and you should try for the broadest exposure possible.

Free feedback is a gift. You then have to option at your discretion to either take it on amd make changes or dissmiss them as bleating drivel. The worst case would be if people actually found it hard to find what was available and just forgot about it.

I looked there too and the figs look great.... but I had to go to every army link and scroll down off every army page to see if there were any chariots or other fancy pants figs available. Usually its the gimicky troops that convince me on an army - being a modeller first and player second.

The history background stuff is good for those interested and may generate sales if that is the niche particular for those players who classify biblical troops into three categories (Egyptian, Assyrian, other).

It was already announced on the miniatures page before it was here. It is difficult to please everyone unfortunately and alot of people actually like the web-design, so I have to balance what I think is best. Of course in time I will always take on suggestions but there is a limit as there will always be conflicting suggestions. Thanks anyway.
Glad people seem to like the figures which is the main thing.
