During the Carthaginian siege of Himera in Sicilia, the Himeran defenders and their Greek and Syracusan allies launch a surprise attack on the besiegers' camps. Although initially successful, the attackers were driven back into the city. The Carthaginians lost 6,000 men and the Himerans and their allies 3,000 men. Shortly afterwards the Carthaginians stormed the city.
