mixed battle groups and rear flank charges

Post by deadtorius »

Fighting against Imperial Romans on the weekend and I was considering a flank charge with my LH into a unit of mixed legions. Now if the legions were frontally engaged and have not lost any bases yet, if I charged them with the LH that means the third or LF bows would turn to face the flank charge. So do I get full dice for fighting lights and they count as light foot for POA's etc.

Same would apply if they were charged in the rear, it would be a fight with the lights first so you treat the target as LF until they die and one of the heavies turns to face?

I was wondering how it would have worked but at the time I didn't follow through on it.

If you contacted the supporting LF with your charge, they would fight as LF, with all the disadvantages that gives them. Being brigaded with the HF means that they are not skirmishers; however, they are still LF, even though they are part of a mixed BG.

Althought for certain purposes they count as part of a BG of non-skirmishers. So it is not always just the base.

IE enemy LF cannot charge them in the open.

I understood that the unit as a whole is classed as HF, I was wondering what would happen if you happened to hit the LF specifically, thanks for the answer that is what I figured but needed to confirm it. Next time I might just send the LH into the rear of those legions if I get the chance
