Game freezes after Hungary enters the war

Playing against the AI as the allies, I've got to the end of 1940 when the game freezes after Hungary enters the war. I've managed to reproduce the bug in the same game by declaring war myself on Hungary. Same happens with a new game on turn 1 if I declare war on Hungary.

Will look into it further but if anybody has had the problem, let me know. I've seen a few posts with similar freezing errors. Could you check whether it comes after a diplomatic event such as an AI declaration of war.

duh! How could I forget? GS v1.05 as per last post here: viewtopic.php?t=14970&start=60

Will remove the game and reinstall to see if I can reproduce it again.

Will remove the game and reinstall to see if I can reproduce it again.

Same problem with the saved game following a reinstall. However, on closer inspection I can't reproduce the problem exactly with a new game. If at the beginning of turn 1 I declare war on Hungary the map window does freeze but unlocks again if I click on any of the menu icons (lab or troops purchase). Tried it with the saved game and it seems to get around the problem. Still no idea why it does it.

If at the beginning of turn 1 I declare war on Hungary the map window does freeze but unlocks again if I click on any of the menu icons (lab or troops purchase). You could be experiencing a memory issue. I'm running on an older machine (7 1/2 years old) and occasionally I'll experience a lockup that's due to memory. The problem is semi repeatable in that it will occur sometimes, but not all the time, at the same point. My suspicion is that whatever is happening at the point is using a lot of memory. Also, when I experience these memory lockups I have several applications open (i.e., mail, internet, photo, etc.) and/or my anti-virus (avast! free) is doing his thing.

My PC is less than a year old and I play without other applications or virus scans operating so I'd be surprised if that was it. Still, seems to be the most likely explanation so will pursue than line of investigation. Thanks for the help.
