Field of Glory patch v1.2.8 Now Available!
Slitherine, Matrix & Hexwar are pleased to announce the release of a huge update to their award winning wargame Field of Glory. The 1.2.8 patch fixes bugs, adds a load of new features and has numerous other improvements to existing features. This patch is also compatible with all version from 1.0 up to 1.2.6, and even the beta patches released recently. It is compatible with the Matrix and Slitherine versions, so it is a truly universal patch. It is the last patch we will be releasing as all future updates will come from the built in updater program.
You can download the latest patch from http://www.slitherine.com/files/fog/fie ... _1.2.8.exe
The main changes are these:
· There is now a "Check for Updates" button on the main menu. This removes the need to download and install patches manually – it is all automated to ensure you get the latest version.
· 17 new battles.
· Double moves have been added. These allow strategic redeployment of troops within command radius but not close to any enemy.
· Fog of War has been improved so that it’s possible to conceal lines of troops behind each other.
· The evade logic has been changed to make it much more realistic.
· Many AI improvements to make it select better combats, avoid combats it will not win and control its skirmishers better.
· Baggage camps are now worth 10% of the army size, not just 2 points, making baggage a much more important part of the game.
· Adds compatibility to play vs Mac players.
Here is the full list.
· Change: Logic: Cavalry that can evade will now always evade elephants.
· Change: Logic: The point at which the game can end because of victory conditions is now after the end phase events have happened, not before.
· Fix: Logic: In multiplayer, the 'could not give an order' error message would appear after the game had ended.
· Change: Logic: Field fortifications and portable defences now have precedence over terrain elevation when calculating close combat POAs.
· Fix: UI: When watching an AI turn or a replay, the map now pans more appropriately before a ranged attack happens.
· Fix: Logic: Combat cohesion tests were giving incorrect results.
· Change: Historical strengths to 300 for most troop types.
· Change: Logic: A CMT is no longer needed to pursue evaders.
· Change: Logic: When pursuing, battle groups that had charged to the limit of their move allowance no longer get to move one more hex 'for free' when they pursue their target.
· Fix: An out-of-bounds exception in the AI.
· Change: Units that evade as a result of a charge order face in the direction of their evade path.
· Change: Logic: Units that are out-of-command are now prevented from doing double moves.
· Change: Logic: Units will now be prevented from charging impetuously into a hex that is adjacent to an enemy elephant.
· Fix: Logic: Fragmented units are no longer assumed to be able to do impetuous charges.
· Change: AI: Better commanding of poor and fragmented battle groups.
· Add: New high-resolution icons.
· Add: Double moves. Battle groups that stay at a distance of '5' from an enemy to be able to move further than normal (3 extra movement points or double their move, which-ever is less).
· Add: Apple Mac editions of Field of Glory, Rise of Rome and Storm of Arrows.
· Add: In game 'update' system. There should be no more requirements for patches. The system can now check for the latest update and download and install it automatically.
· Change: The multi-player system has been amended to only allow official DAG army lists to be used.
· Change: The anarchy scores required to pass a CMT test to be reduced by one. This effectively reduces the change of anarchy charges.
· Bug: Battle groups should not take part in an anarchy charge if it will disorganise them.
· Bug: Fixed an error in Anglo Irish list, some LB did not have stakes.
· Bug: Fixed an error in some unit graphics.
· Bug: Fixed some minor errors in a number of DAG armies.
· Change: Put 'open' rather than 'pass worded' challenges to the top of the accept a challenge list in the DAG.
· Bug: Sometimes the end game/end turn sequence gives cannot move message.
· Change: When listing your outstanding challenges your own army name and details should not be hidden.
· Change: How replay reveals the line of sight. The aim is to allow a front line to move forwards and leave the back line obscured.
· Change: Allow players to select less than the nominated number of points in DAG batttles to allow mismatched army sizes to assist in campaign games.
· Change: The AI to select an army to the size of the target points, not the number chosen by the player. This allows the player to take less points in to a battle and fight handicapped.
· Change: Baggage is now 10% of the army points, minimum 2.
· Change: Added the army pack version numbers to the splash display.
· AI: Only charge when the chances of victory are high.

Upgrade from the beta 1.2.8
What do you need to do to to upgrade from the beta?
1) Nothing.
2) Do an Update now.
3) Install the huge patch like everyone else?
Currently my beta 1.2.8 doesn't get anything with update now and still seems to be pointed at the beta server.

It should work with anything. We've tested it with 1.2.6 and 1.2.8 beta and it works in every situation we have tried on various operating systems. We've tried it with all versions back to 1.0 from Slitherine & Matrix.
Can you tell us your operating systems. Can you also tell us where you installed the previous versions?
Do you remember which patches you applied and what version you were at initially? Have you previously installed Matrix & Slitherine patches?

In my case I have installed the Matrix versions of FoG, SOA and RoR in that order...then 1.2.6. I installed 1.2.7beta when released and then updated to 1.2.8 via the new auto-updater button in the FOG interface.
OS is XP sp.3 32bit
Install location is the default Matrix install location: C:\matrix games\field of glory

The "Foot Losing Impact Combat to Impact Foot" cohesion die modifier was being applied to both melee and impact combats. Now it should only be applied to impact combats. IIRC that was the only change.Blathergut wrote:Could someone possibly explain what was happening with:

Same error here, same as Scutarii and the others. Can't install. I'm using Win 7 64x, install location C:\Games\FoG
I have the Matrix version and this is the first time I've tried to install a Slitherine patch. I relied on the assurance that it was fully compatible with the Matrix.
Hope this is fixed double-quick pronto.

We had issues with the Slitherine version which we fixed and tested but during the fix we broke Matrix compatibility and didnt retest that...sigh. We're fixing it now and will have an update for you ASAP. Apologies for any inconvenience guys. This will be the last issue you have... promise!
Anyone with the Slitherine version is fine, Matrix users will have to wait for an hour or 2 while we sort it out.

There was also a bug where the losing to mounted/losing to impact foot was being applied when shot at by those troop types, e.g. by horse archers or by highlanders. Was that also fixed?EricS wrote:The "Foot Losing Impact Combat to Impact Foot" cohesion die modifier was being applied to both melee and impact combats. double move thought
Probobly shouldnt comment yet as only had time before work to download the patch and load up a canned scenario to check it out but:
I had some light cavalry charged on the AI turn by heavy cavalry they evaded (and now on my turn the are facing away from the chargers , very nice)
Howver these light cavalry can now double move even further away if they choose
Seams odd that cavalry that evade are likly alway going to be able to double move as the evade apparently will get them out of the 5 hex zone they need...
Cant put my finger on it but seems like it gives evaders the ability to really skedaddle away from th battle if they chose to and never get caught, which seams contrayr to the new evade logic of facing away from the source of the evade... just pondering...

Im getting a patch download problem on a purely Slitherine setup.
I have a new laptop (arrived today). It is running windows 7
I have FOG v1.0 saved on a removable disc. I downloaded this onto the new laptop (it runs and plays as normal). When I go to download v1.28 and press 'run', I get the error message:
Archive integrity check failed. The setup file is not complete, possbly due to an incomplete download or corrupted file.
I have tried uninstalling and dowloading again but get the same results.
