Corners of field fortifications

Post by peteratjet »

Thinking about fortifications, and their possible, eventual use in an Ottoman army ...

How should corners be represented? A fortification piece occupies the same footprint as a HF base. If you have a BG sheltering behind fortifications, each base will be in front-edge-to-rear-edge contact with a fortification piece. You can also protect the flank of the BG with fortification pieces at right-angles to the frontal fortification. For instance ...

... like that, with Ls indicating BG bases, Fs indicating fortifcation pieces. In this case, I think that the fortification pieces on the flanks would be in rear-corner-to-rear-corner contact with the frontal pieces.

Is that correct? It would look a bit odd, but you could have removable square corner pieces, 15mm deep, for visual effect, just as you have moveable trees in forest terrain pieces.

Yes that's how people do it. There'd be no issue with corner pieces. Suggest you model them separately, sometimes you'll not want the flank protection
