Shooting: how do you measure range?

Post by Plainsman »

When figuring which files of a BG are eligible to shoot at an enemy, how do you measure the range? Is it only straight forward i.e. perpendicular from the front of the battlegroup? Or do you have to measure the actual distance, potentially at an angle, from each file to the potential target?

We understand how to figure arc of fire, our question is simply a matter of how do you measure the range! All the diagrams in the book seem to point to perpendicular measurement, however, the rules are vague enough to not discern how to measure the range for sure...Some clarification would be appreciated! :)

Thank you!

You measure the distance from the nearest part of the front edge (or a front corner) to the target.

On a base by base basis. (That should have come out better)

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

Make multiple measurements for one BG then?

So are you guys saying that you have to measure each file to see if each is in range?

Yes. Even if it is in arc it cannot shoot if too far away

Yes. Shooting dice are calculated based on the number of files (that is to say, bases) of shooters that are both in range and in arc.
