No more swordsmen shot in pike and shot BGs

Post by rbodleyscott »

This issue is so important that I am giving it a separate thread and stickying it.

Mike has pointed out that "Protected shot" and "Swordsmen" capabilities are cumulative against Mounted Troops in Melee combat.

This is really a bug in the rules, IMO, but one that at this stage we can only deal with by list manipulation.

I think therefore that we must have no more swordsmen shot in pike & shot BGs. (The Irish brigade got lucky but at least there aren't very many of them).

This is not to say that we cannot have Shot swordsmen in unmixed BGs.

Whether we should allow them in Pike and HW BGs I am not sure. These are more vulnerable to mounted, because the HW file is disadvantaged at impact.

This should probably be clarified to cover only Heavy Foot types that provide protection to Shot.

Medium Foot of those same types (thinking Spearmen or HW) don't provide Protection that negates opposing POAs, so Shot Swordsmen might be appropriate there.
