Rules mis-stated in manual

Post by gazxtrix »

SECTION: Deciding how many dice to roll

--------------------

Modify the number of attacks for battle groups current cohesion level

Fragmented or very disordered, quantity attacks = attacks x 2 / 3
OR
Disrupted or disordered, quantity attacks = attacks x 1 / 2

--------------------

I believe this should be the other way round.

Cheers

This has been pointed out many times, the problem is with the wording. What the example is trying to explain (badly) is the reduction that is to be applied to the number of attacks, in this case the words above are correct because when you subtract 2/3 of the attacks when fragmented you are left with only 1/3 of the normal attacks. Similarly for disrupted, you subtract 1/2 of the attacks and are left with 1/2.

The example should read something like:

When Fragmented or very disordered, quantity attacks is reduced by 2 / 3, i.e attacks = attacks * 1/3
OR
When Disrupted or disordered, quantity attacks is reduced by 1 / 2, i.e. attacks = attacks * 1/2

Disordered units lose 1/3 of their attacks, rounding down. e.g. with 4 attacks normally, a disordered BG would lose 1.
Fragmented unit lose 1/2 of their attacks rounding down, e.g. a MF bow unit with 3 attacks normally would lose 1.

The help entry has the fractions reversed. Hopefully it will get updated eventually.

It seems I am wrong in my interpretation and the original poster is correct. My apologies.

In the TT rules the loss is dice lost so Disrupted you lose 1 die per 3, Fragged 1 die per 2. I believe the same process was intended here just the wording makes it all very hard to interpret. Hope that helped to clear things up.

As for the help and rules files missing stuff or mistaken, Slitherine has said many times that they dont have the manpower to keep updating the help files and they know they are out of date with mistakes.

perhaps it could be exported to a wiki.....then the community could keep it up to date

I suppose that is an option, but not all of us in the community are certain the TT rules all made it into the PC game. So you might still end up with misleading information on a wiki site too

We should make it clearer in the documentation.

help bugs

Post by batesmotel »

When reporting errors in the on line help, it would help a great deal if you could both report the version of the game you currently have installed and also the path from the initial help screen you used to get to the topic. Thanks.
