My Impression of the defensive tactics in BA

Post by johnncfb »

I have played every scenario several times and have found tht success in the mission depends on the defensive units breaking the enemy so that the attack/counterattack can push through.

I originally thought that a forward defense, maximizing shooting would be the best tactic, but the enemy can swamp a forward defense and leave one without any forces to counter with.

I have success with defending in depth with interlocking fields of fire. As the Axis computer player advances to overpower the forward most units, the supporting units lend support and are often able to suppress and destroy enough of the attack that the forward units are able to rally for the next wave of attacks. It is VERY important to use the infantry to support your AT guns, for the AT wont attack infantry. Infantry is actually the spearhead of any counter attacks as the tanks are so blind that one only finds an enemy by looking near all the destroyed vehicles in an area.

The game makes one feel like one needs to hurry to achieve objectives, but patience is a virtue. the artillery and air support can make a world of difference. Wait for the artillery to do it's work.

I have also found that the maxim,
reinforce success
is all important. An advance like a scapel is better than wielding a hatchett accross the whole front.

Well that might help me to be less of an easy target for the enemy whenever I have to take on a mission ;).

Hopefully your findings mean that one has to think to beat the missions, and that should make for a fun and challenging game.

Thanks as always for your well-considered feedback.

Cheers
