Gallic Confusion...

I'm not sure if its the 8 Grey Goose and redbull from last night or just being stupid, but I'm at a loss in regards to two rules in the Gallic list.

I know reading is fundamental, but in Rise of Rome page 17 where it is talking about b4 such date cavalry bases have to equal chariot bases, and at a certain date its flipped, does that not mean the same thing being that chariot bases and cavalry bases have to be equal?

Second one is regarding the allied commanders. Outside of the example of the Gaesati what needs an allied commander? To take Gaesati, or other allied things do I just take them from my list or do I have to follow the Gallic Allies list.

Very confused, and would love a little help.

It's not "equal", it's "at least equal".

For example you take allied commanders to have both MF and HF in your army.

The usual rule for internalalies (i.e. from the same list) is that the elements come from the main list for the purposes of minima and maxima calculations, but that the allied contingent must conform to the allied contingent list as well. So a Gallic ally in a Gallic army (for example from a different tribe) would have to have cavalry/chariots and warband. If memory serves (books are boxed up at present) the Gaeseati are a special case and must be commanded by an ally with no other troops.

One advantage of using the ally is that you can sometimes get different variations of the main trop type. For Gauls this would mean you could mix Heavy and Medium foot (not across the army but the allied contingent can be different - for example a Helvetii ally in another tribe's army.

I think that the Gallic list is limited to two subordinate commanders, so if you want a fourth, you need at least one allied leader.
