Happycat's first impressions
Tutorial is a bit frustrating. After the first chapter (destroy the Italian tank), the scoring shows "one friendly armour casualty". Why? It was the Italian that was destroyed and that is not a friendly unit.
In the second chapter, I have tried various combinations of mouse clicks to try to get an air strike on the 88's, but no joy.
Also, the F5 key for posting in game comments does not appear to work. I used it, presumbaly corrrectly, but I do not see my comments showing up.

To deploy the airstrike, you need to left click on the left hand panel, then mouse over the northern gun (which is marked with a glowy marker). This enables you to right click (as per the normal orders) and bring up the button to execute. You then need to wait a turn for the airstrike to come in.
I'll take a look at the scoring, it might be that the UI is the wrong way around.
Does the comments system work when you use it when you quit the game?
Thanks for the feedback, keep it up!

When I quit the game, the comments came up on screen, and I clicked "ok". But I still don't see them herepipfromslitherine wrote:To deploy the airstrike, you need to left click on the left hand panel, then mouse over the northern gun (which is marked with a glowy marker). I finally got the airstrike to work.

I'm not sure about the UI being reversed, but I think clearly the conventional means of showing a score based upon casualties is to place the numbers for same under the side who suffered them, not the one that caused them.
An additional impression---it is difficult to determine how to unload infantry, and although I think I now understand the UI, it doesn't always work the way it should. Can you describe to me how you think the command for disembarking infantry from an apc should work? Maybe I'm not doing it quite right.

I will re-check the unloading of apc's---my impression is that on occasion, the tile I right clicked on did not receive the unit, and it instead deployed on an adjacent tile. Perhaps a terrain issue? But, I will check...pipfromslitherine wrote:You select the carrying unit. Right click on an adjacent tile and select unload.
Is that what you are seeing?
wrt the beta posting, is it possible that it is being blocked by a firewall? We have seen other postings, even if they are empty
Cheers
Pip
I don't think the firewall is blocking anything, as it always warns me what it blocks (and has a log I can check after I close the game as well, and I don't see any incident reports).

If it happens again, I will get a screen shot. But it may have been my own ineptitude; I am still learning the ui.pipfromslitherine wrote:Is it possible there are hidden enemy units there? If not, can you give me an example of a map and place where you see it happen.

On the plus side, I think this game shows a lot of promise and reminds me in some ways of Panzer General. Will there eventually be a long series of linked scenarios creating one (or more) grand campaigns? I always liked that with PG you could carry your experienced/elite units forward with you to the next scenario (unless you were sloppy, and lost them).

Currently there are no plans to have campaigns with carryover - it makes balancing things so much harder.
Perhaps we could have the ability to keep some special named units - but then it tends to make you replay a lot if you lose them. If it's an idea with legs then we could look at it going forward, but I don't think we'll be adding for the initial release at this stage.
Note that in the final version all missions will have to be done in order (you'll be able to go back and replay missions you have completed of course).
Cheers

Re: Happycat's first impressions
FWIW, I had exactly this problem too. I kept left clicking the aircraft on the left, then right clicking the guns, then ended the turn....several times. It didn't seem to initiate the airstrike intuitively. I'm going to try and reproduce what I did so I can explain it better.Happycat wrote:In the second chapter, I have tried various combinations of mouse clicks to try to get an air strike on the 88's, but no joy.

You need to right click to bring up the button to press it. This is the same way it works when you shoot at a target for example.
So:
+ click the icon on the left
+ move over the target
+ right click to pop up the button
+ click the button to place the airstrike
Once you right click the button pops up to be pressed, but perhaps it is looking like it's marking the target ready to be hit?
If it's not obvious them we'll need to either explain the process better, or tweak the way the UI works.
Thanks
Pip
