Video Plays but game then crashes!

Really appreciate anyone's help. Recently bought Commander - Europe at War. I've installed it on my laptop running XP. The game appears to have been installed successfully but as the game opens, a video plays with sound but then it crashes. There's no error message but the screen just returns to the desktop without the game menu appearing - the sounds frustratingly continues in the background until I turn the laptop off.

Appreciate if someone could help as it's driving me nuts!

Can you tell us which version you have and any patches or mods applied. Also post your system specs.

The system specs are... Toshiba Netbook NB100 with an Intel Atom N270, running XP Service Pack 3, 1 GB DDR RAM, 120 Hard disk.

The software edition is dated Mar 2009 - not sure of a version number but suitable for XP. At present, I haven't any pathches or mods.
