LOS??

Post by 76mm »

OK, I've seen several people say that they are looking forward to the new LOS rules in RoR.

Most of the battles I play don't seem to have hills or forests, so I'm having a hard time figuring out why I should get all excited about this...

Will the new LOS rules allow me to shoot over intervening units, or why should I really care?

Depends on how they are implemented.

Yes, they should at least prohibit units from firing at BGs that they cannot see, such as on the other side of hills or forests. However, I'm hoping that they will provide an element of Fog of War by 'hiding' enemy BGs from the player until such time as at least one friendly unit has LoS.

In that way, even on a relatively flat battlefield, some enemy BGs will potentially be 'hidden' behind other enemy BGs. So, allied with a free setup, you will not know exactly where all the enemy BGs are setup at the start. Throw in a few hills or forests and you may have only a sketchy view of enemy dispositions. Imagine the possibilities for ambushes in hilly country or hiding the fact that you have put all your cavalry on the left wing hiding behind a line of other BGs.

We shall just have to wait and see how Slitherine intends the LoS rules to work.
