Wars of the Roses : Town and Country Militia

Getting to grips with a shed-load of Perry WotR plastics, how would the dress of Town & Country militia differ from the retinue troops. I can see that they would be less well armoured, which is fine, as the sprues offer a wide variety of choices for armour (including no armour), but I am unsure about the paint job. Would the militia be wearing liviery? Badges ? What are typical colour schemes?
Then there's the Northern Border troops.
