Decals homemade

Hello I write for a suggestion
few week ago I bought a paper for decals
I have print with my inkjet the paper and then try to put on the shields with a bad result
decals do not stay on my shileds

afternoon then I bouth a "micro sol" a solution but if I use this solution the decals Are deleted by this

any suggestions?
A palce where to buy a better paper?

After you print out the decals you must spray them with varnish. I used GW varnish but I think any varnish will do.

Old modelers trick, dilute some white glue and paint it on the shield thin layer, apply decal before the glue dries so 1 shield at a time, use a damp kleenex to gently dab the air and excess glue out, that should hold it and its cheap easy and you probably have some around. I agree that you should also use a varnish on the transfers after printing as ink jets are water based inks and tend to run when they get wet.

I've always wanted to try doing my own shield transfers. What kind of paper do you use for this, and where do you get it? Can you simply use an Inkjet printer to print them out with.

I got mine from eBay, search for "decal paper"
TBH I think it's more hassle than it's worth, and the results were never as good as I had hoped

I bought mine from Veni Vidi Vici. They are listed as "Blank decal paper" under "Modelling Accessories" (not under any of the "transfer" headings) on their website (http://www.3vwargames.co.uk/shop/modell ... ories.html). They supply two types of paper, optimised for inkjet and laser printers, both types available in transparent or white. You will need the latter if you have white in your design as most printers don’t print white ink. I have only used the transparent kind. An instruction sheet comes with the paper.

I got good results using a drop of PVA when applying the transfer.

Varnishing the decals after printing is essential.
Gloss varnishing the shield before applying the transfer is also a good idea.

Picture shows a 15 mm figure.

Gloss varnish actually does help, the smoother the surface the better the decal will adhere. something to keep in mind when you are painting depending on what paints you use. A gloss enamel paint might be a good choice for this as it keeps you from having to spray a whole fig with gloss and then use dull coat on top.

Or you can use gloss varnish from a pot as then you don't need gloss enamel in every colour that you want to use.
