Follow up to Quick Timers

Post by ggaius10 »

First off I would like to think Possum, I believe it was who passed along the info to me from my last question, concern, bashing or whatever. I know the feeling about getting bounced more than once but, I have never ran into anything to equal this. I thought the Celtic and even some of the Hannibal campaigns were a little nerver wracking but, I finally got through those. Admitedly afer four tries for some of these. Then I get to the scenario Ambush at Cypsela which seems ordinary enough in the introduction but isn't. According to the guidelines you are to hold off 10000 enemy long enough for the rest of the column to join in and not lose more than 200 troops in doing this. I did this, and had the other side taking off for the other end of the map and my forces were sitting there all alone for 20 seconds after having accomplished the first part in not losing 200 troops, and then when time ran out I got, You failed to win the scenario because you didnot gain complete victory in 150 Minutes. 150 minutes? You only get 2minutes and 29 seconds to complete the scenario and there's no way you can reach the far flung enemy forces and defeat them entirely before the timer reaches 1:50 or 1minute 50 seconds. I've tried and tried and tried to win this one and I am bogged down completely. I'm starting to wonder if I have something wrong with the game at this point. I would like to leave this seemingly not too difficult battle, (the enemy crumble and run almost on contact for the most part,) and move on to something else but, I can't do that until I finish this scenario. I could have replied directly back to Possum whom gave me the help but, I post this here in case someone else runs into this after I'm done with it and needs help getting through. So much for the fairly easy always win battles in other Roman games I have. I hope someone can push me through this before I pull all of my hair out.

Have you tried dropping the difficulty setting down for this battle?

Fast Timers

I figured out the way in which to win the battle using Possum's advice. Perhaps it is an oversight on my behalf or, these arenot included in the digital downloads of the game when purchased via download, but I have never found anywhere to set the game on anything but normal, hard or harder. If there is an easy on this one, it must be well hidden because I normally use this setting on the majority of games I play. I wish there had been ways to modify this game such as those found in Rome Total War but, there isn't. Anyhow I have finished the first segment and moved on to the add on which I also purchased and downloaded. This one seems to be a bit harder than the original but, I think I can fight my way through it eventually. Thanks for the reply and don't be surprised if you find me asking more questions out there in the future.

Hey, ggaius, glad you figured it out!

The settings are as you described - Normal, Hard, and Very Hard.

The setting labelled "Normal" actually gives an advantage to the player.

The setting labelled "Hard" gives no advantage to either side.

The setting labelled "Very Hard" gives an advantage to the computer opponent.

As for Cult of Mithras, have fun. I still have not been able to complete it, and only very few of those who post here have stated that they did.

Cult of Mithras

Right now I'm not doing anything with it Possum. I probably would have been through the game by now but, I had to reset the compter and this erased everything I previously had on the HD. I haven't downloaded the game again at this time. I've been busy working with Dawn of War's Dark Crusade, Caesar IV and Glory of the Roman Empire. I purchased the game by digital download so I think I can do this. Anyhow I believe I ordered the backup CD's for the games just in case. I'll reload the game and get back to playing Cult of Mithras in the near future. Probably very soon since I'm becoming tired of the playing the previously mentioned games.
