GS - Weather Combat Effects??

Post by Blathergut »

(2nd attempt to post...I wrote this all out but it seems to have disappeared!)

In the combat odds window, I see the modifier for terrain and river crossing penalty. But GS also affects Unit Operations?

For example, the chart in the manual shows armour taking a -2 in mud and winter (Axis). Is this a reduction in unit strength? Is it taken into account for the combat odds shown?

Likewise, for air, is the factor/2 mean that an Axis TAC with strength 10 attacks with a strength of 5 in mud and winter?

Do Axis Fighters affect ground targets during mud and winter?

Hi,

Yes there is modifiers attacking across river hexsides. Remember there are special hexsides that act just like river hexsides it is noted on (manual v1.04) page 54, section 10.11.8 .

The attack strength has a reduction of -2 for armour, -1 for all other unit types. That is taken into account for the odds. Also air factors , shock and strategic are divided by 2, rounded up .
so a TAC with a strength of ten in normal weather has a shock factor of 4, in mud and winter that shock value is now 2 for the same TAC with a strength of ten.

Your last question is true along with other factions fighters it depends on the upgrades , experience, effectiveness.

Someone else will have to describe how the odds are calculated using what information.

The unit has a strength factor from 1 to 10 .
Within that unit type there are various types of properties each unit has. When you click on the unit the lower left window displays those different type of properties. Depending on the type of combat involved
will determine what properties are involved.

Simple right :) ?

k..am getting there understanding it :)

So it's a double or triple or more whammy for the Germans in Holland and Belgium. Armour takes a -2 to attack strength plus halving of their shock...plus -65% if going over a river in mud...plus minus 20% or whatever for attacking into forest...man...no wonder I was getting nowhere fast!!!
