Is it me or do impact troops get crushed on impact?

It seems whenever I charge with impact troops they take astounding losses, even against seemingly inferior troops. Is this a bug, am I doing something wrong, or misunderstanding impact?

I can't say this has been my experience.
Ok, sometimes they don't do well but majority of the time they win the first impact fight.
I've played nearly 100 multiplayer games now.

See the help pages on 'Impact ...' there are a few and it may be you are charging in circumstances where you will not get the ++.

Most Roman legionaries do slice through most things in my experience.

Don't charge anything armed with a lance......and you will be equal up to pike.....

The virtual dice in this game can be evil to you, don't always believe the odds the game will display when you are preparing to charge. Sometimes you go in with the odds all in your favour and the computer hands you a bunch of 1's and you get kicked.... and drop cohesion.
