Probably worth mentioning that the draw for this competition is done by hand. It will be swiss, BUT , generally armies are faced off against geographic contemporaneous opponents. So, there may be seen to be a geographical divide in the draw (east/west).

This is how its is done every year - but perhaps just best said beforehand

Vikings! A brave and a noble man. May Odin and Tyr ride with you, and don't take any Gibichung allies!

Good stuff, perhaps there needs to be some sort of organisation of partnerless players.

I think you should be able to get a partner and here is a pretty good place to ask.

You might want to try the BHGS Wargaming Yahoo list as well.

I should have also said, I'm happy to play alongside anyone else who has an army already.

Assuming I pair up, this will be my first double comp, but I often play as part of a multi-player command at my local club

Skullgrindaz, what is a 'Gibichung'

An infamously treacherous and murderous family from the Volsungsaga epic, who deceive and betray Seigfried - first getting him to do their heavy lifting in love and war, and ultimately murdering him by spearing him in the back.

Here is a synopsis of Wagner's operatic retelling: http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/ ... aspx?id=46

The story is preserved from the Migration Period, and survived as a single Icelandic manuscript. It was a great favorite of the Vikings.

Many scholars think the Gibichungs were a reference to the Huns.

Tolkein translated it in the manner of the original poetic style, and that translation is recently released for the first time:

The tale was made into a scifi channel tv movie in 2004. Some youtube excerpts:

Yes, I am a nut about this stuff. And I am now inspired to go back to work on my Gepids!

LISTER: What? In the back?

RIMMER: Of course in the back. It's only a pity he's awake.

LISTER: You mean you could happily kill him if he was asleep?

RIMMER: I could happily kill him if he was on the job. Gloop him.

well I didn't thin that such things were catered for ...but

Prompt Submissions - Army lists and payment received before the 31st December will be rewarded by entry into a Prize Draw.
Please make sure you fill in the addresses for both players on the entry form,
All entries must be received by the 1st of February, notification will be sent and must be brought to the event as proof of entry.
Failure to submit an army list before the 1st February may result in a refund of any entry fee and reallocation of competition place to another team.

Places will be allocated strictly on a first come first served basis.

OK, the final deadline has now passed. We have 52 teams as it stands.

BUT.... there are still a lot of lists pending... and a lot of entry cheque missing! So, if you fall into one of those two categories please pull your finger out!

Early entry but very late list... sorry

The list has been finalised for a couple of weeks at least, just not sent to the relevant authorities.
