It would have been better if I had painted or even put the diorama together but these are thanks to Paul Crozier.

Suppose you had better see the varangian Guard, with a lovely St Eligius banner

Very nice Phil,

The only problem is that they rather show up the painting of the rest of your Byzantines ;)

They'll be leaving the fighting to the Varangains and Kataphractoi, hiding at the back out of harms way.

The dogs and Varangians are Splintered Light
http://www.splinteredlightminis.com/
The dogs are from the Early Saxon listing and the Varangians are a customised bunch of Saxons and post Roman Brits to give a bit of a look of stuff from the Byzantine armoury for some. Heads, shields and weapons have been swapped around/replaced.

LOL! That is excellent! I remember being in Budapest about 15 years ago. There was a huge marketsquare at the foot of one of their historic bridges - I cannot remember the name of the place now. The square was very striking to my Amerikanski eyes because there was a lot of Gothic and Medieval architecture surrounding it, and the stores were all very chic and modern in presentation an offerings.

The point of this ramble is that a portion of the public square featured a massive, whole OX spitted and barbequed, surrounded by . . . metal kegs of lager! It smelled soooooo good. The Hungarians just wandered up to and got pieces carved off like a roast beef, served up in some sort of flat bread roll.

Anyway, I look at you camp and think instinctively "Later Hungarians", lol.
