Biggest map

I am considering getting this game. (or one other game of Slitherine)
But I was wondering what is the longest timeframe this game has?
And what is the largest map? Can one play a campaign bringing Rome from a minor in Italy to a behemoth with provinces all around the mediterranean?
How far can one go tech wise? How is the evolution of the Legions done visually and statwise?

This is the first game in the series with the smallest maps, so each campaign is a separate map. Technology does not really change during the period the game covers. It is the simplest of the games but some people like this best.

Hmmm that's a shame.
Had there been a larger one, I would have gotten it for sure.
Well hopefully we'll see a Legion II.
