Bronze Age unit lists Commented Analysis [2025]

Post by SuitedQueens »

Latest recent vids from this channel (uploaded a few days ago).

Heres the preamble/addendum tho:

Simons approach to analysis slightly out of context in all those vids. First of all players should know how particular units stack up against meta. Most have a heavy bias towards Infantry that can be easily kited and shot apart by experienced players. This time period is more about skirmishing and light chariots. And then Heavy Chariots hitting Disrupted units for quick breaks. As being said before low quality of infantry combined with low armor is a recipe for disaster, but I guess videos made for average players who love to spam the wide line infantry.

Second of all Chariots relevant usages were not mentioned. E.g. the fact that light chariots debuff no melee capability Mass Bowmen just by being in 2 tiles range unlike say light horses. Or the fact that even bow light chariots can AutoCohesion drop for flank charge unlike Light horses and can put up Zones of Control against anything. Light Chariots evade, but don't have mobility and free turn of light horses, but tempo blocking them by light infantry to delay opponent by changing his facing is still an option. Then Heavy Chariots being devastating head on or as blockers to anything except heavy spears (still nice as defenders) or pikes or lancers. Light Chariots better against medium cav on impact, but much worse in melee despite having no Combat Strength disadvantage.

Extra tip: Simon always disregards timing aspect which is utmost important for the rush armies. So Rubble for 15 points is actually great. They can zone and waste many turns of cav and chariots on the flank. Think how many extra turns will be spent on Pursuit, turn around and return afterwards. While your infantry crushes theirs. Most players pick infantry heavy armies. They are not so good against proper skirmisher mobile armies from the opponent, but fine as a meathshield that help to win skirmisher phase by zonning out opponent lights.

Thanks for your interest!

You do make some good points. Remember that each list is different and many are quite limited in options. The Egyptian 940 BC and Mycenaean 1250 BC lists don’t have heavy chariots. The Mycenaean 1600 BC list only has heavy chariots and no light chariots.

Yes, some players do like rabble and hide them at the back to make it a little more difficult to get over the 25% winning margin. I prefer to spend my points elsewhere.

It is a fair point about light chariots. Most players do know that they can get flanks on inf and cav but the point can be reinforced.

In most of my videos so far I have maxed or nearly maxed my light chariots (like the Egyptian 940 BC video). I didn’t go infantry heavy.

There are allies in the TDC. I made a mistake and thought they weren’t being used..

Im Dark Savant from the Discord. What I meant by your overuse of infantry is that in skirmish meta Light Infantry is a way better choice given all facts above. Your infantry can accomplish anything only against average players, which admittedly 90% of the game population, so thats why I included that its fine against your ordinary nonDivision A folks.
