Oxford Sunday FOGR event 5, December 14

Post by tjelsworth »

All,

Our December event is not too far away. It is 25mm scale 600 point competition with rules as follow:

March 1562 to April 1598 - French Wars of Religion
Fought between: Protestants, Huguenots and England against Catholics, Catholic League, Spain (any
option allowed). Special rule for Huguenot – they may take a max of 4 commanded shot attached to any
gendarmes or horse units.

Deployment on 6X4 tables for 25mm games is standard I.e. use 15mm MUs for all
deployment actions (but not for anything else) except that camps are reduced to half
normal depth
Timetable for the games: -
1st Round 9.00am to 11.30am
30-minute break
2nd Round 12.00 am to 2.30pm
30 -minute break
3rd Round 3.00 pm to 5.30pm (we only have the hall until 6.00pm)
Rules additions to main set
 Army lists may exceed allowed points by the cost of the cheapest base used.
 Any heavy artillery used must be the first battlegroup(s) deployed, followed immediately by any medium
artillery used.
 Dragoons making any move including an evade starting or ending within 6MU of the enemy, may make
a full dragoon mounted move if they pass a CMT. If they make a move which would be longer than that
allowed to dragoons on foot they may shoot, but as Carbines (in range and effect) not as Muskets.
 Cavalry that pass a CMT can either move 2MU and turn 180 or turn 180 and move 2MU or turn 180
move 2MU and turnback 180.
 For foot, other than LF or dragoons, to enter the flank sector a CMT will be required. To make
any movement other than those required by the rules while in the flank sector, even if only
partly in or to leave the sector, will require a CMT. Once a CMT has been failed in any bound no further CMTs may be attempted that bound.

Entries and Army lists to T.elsworth@btopenworld.com by the end of November please.

Dear all,

Here is the draw for round 1 on Sunday 14th. As we do not have even numbers of the two sides I have done it simply by date and keeping club members apart

Tom Catholic 1562 vs Chris Catholic 1563
Huguenot David 1576 vs Dene Spanish 1572
Huguenot Paddy 1577 vs Paul Spanish 1574
Ray Huguenot 1589 vs Bob Huguenot 1590
Keith Huguenot 1590 vs Jerry Huguenot 1590

We also need to finalise discussions around next year.

Thanks for the draw Tom. What "discussions" are you referring to? David (B)

David,

I was just thinking that there was still time to review the themes/ running order for next year to be sure everyone was happy. There is also the idea that we could make all the events available at both 25mm and 15mm. I have heard from Chris in favour of that and Ray and I developed the idea but nobody else has offered an opinion.

All,

Here are the thoughts on a different approach to 25mm and 15mm games for 2026.

Noting that 25mm events will always have reduced numbers of entrants there exist the possibility of all 5 of our events being in both 25mm and 15mm in parallel. The idea would be to allow up to 8x25mm entrants and 8x15mm entrants with a rule that at least 4 entrants are required for each event to run (in Round Robin format) and that either scale could have more players than 8 up to the total of 16 if the other scale was short of entrants.

It would be a bit more admin but I guess I could cope.

All of the games would count towards the winner for the day (highest overall score) and the Victor Ludorum for the year.

Any views welcome and we can discuss further in December.

Hi all,

Personally I suffer from having no 25mm army so I would always go for the 15mm armies . I understand that it’s nice to play with the big figures sometime so would not want to oppose using them, as to this competition I would have to borrow the army.

Just my views.
