Commanders in front rank

If you have a BG fighting in two directions and the general is fighting in the front rank does he affect all the bases in the BG? Alternatively do you have to nominate which "front rank" he is fighting in?

don't have the rules handy right now, but I believe he can influence all the combats his battle group is engaged in so if they are fighting in 2 directions he can use his abilitly with both enemy battle groups.

Don't believe he has to nominate any particular front rank to be in, his death roll will be the same regardless.
