Tinchebrai - missing units?

I am playing the battle of Tinchebrai for the first time, as the Normans.

At the start, as usual, I am given the option to purchase additional units. I think I purchased four additonal mounted knight units and two spearmen units.

I am very perplexed because these units do not appear among my starting units on the battlefield. My purchases made no difference at all to the size of my army. For example, I have no spearmen despite purchasing two units of these.

Is this a bug? It occurred to my that they might arrive later as reinforcements, but I have played for several turns and there is still no sign of them. Also, I have played every battle in the similar game Pike and Shot and purchased units always appeared in the initial set-up.
