AGEOD's Civil War II

Post by richfed »

This is not a tech question, I just wanted to give these boys a shout-out.

I used to play Birth of America, Civil War, and Civil War II all the time [among other fine titles], but haven't in many years. Got hung up with Order of Battle and Hearts of Iron 4. A month, or so ago, I dusted off that old Civil War II game that gave me so many good hours of gameplay.

It's been a real treat.

First off, I couldn't remember where to start. I rarely play any game's tutorials, preferring instead to muddle my way through and learn as I go. This time though, I went through all the tutorials. It all came flowing back. I should mention that I have a very high-end PC running Windows 11, and a 33" curved monitor. I expected big display issues, but they didn't materialize. The game looks and runs fine .

I have been having a ball. The game stands the test of time. As with all of AGEOD's games, there is a simple elegant look to it. I've started playing, and replaying probably two dozen or more times. Every game played out differently. The AI is pretty darn good. It's historical with many divergences and a challenge to play. A real gem of a game - I go back to the first Avalon Hill games back in the 1960s - this has always been one of my very favorites.

So, thank you to the two Philippes who designed the game—a masterpiece.
