The Pope, Piety and Excommunication.

Post by Tharoz »

Has something changed recently in terms of how Papal relations, Piety and Excommunication is handled on the back end or in mechanics?

I ask, because I am currently playing a 3 player MP game where the three players are: France, Castilla and Poland. Three countries that I have never had to struggle with maintaining good Papal relations. Castilla because constantly fighting the Moors seems to mean you don't even have to think about them, Poland for the same reason but with Pagans and Orthodox neighbours, and France because it has such a heap of OP bonuses, that it never has to think about much of anything (I exaggerate, but only slightly)

Yet, on our previous turn, all three countries were simultaneously excommunicated. This is despite the fact that Poland and France were number 2 and 3 on the "Most pious Christians" chart, all had at least friendly relations with the Papal States. The only change I can think of that could have impacted this, was that on the previous turn, Poland allied with Castilla, which was already allied with France. Is three of the most pious Christian nations allying supposed to send the Pope into apoplexy?

Al Andalus faction and I was excommunicated as a Muslim, unless it was aimed at my rebellious Christian peasants, then it makes perfect sense.
