Army list total bases

Hello,

I’ve been trying to figure out how the army list total bases works.
I’m looking at FOGAM_v3.1 Book 1. Specifically Later Carthaginian.

Looking at Spanish Cavalry for the core army….

The left column under total bases says the army can have 0-8 bases.

Then there is a column on the right that says it can have 4-12 bases.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to interpret that. Can I have 0-8 or 4-12.

I’ve tried several searches and turned up nothing. I’ve read through the rules and the “How To” in the army list pdf.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Jim,

I took a look at the section in question and found this relevant instructional bit on page 4 of book 1

So if we look at the spanish cav it reads like

Your army must contain a minimum of 4 Average Spanish light cavalry
Your army may have a maximum of 12 Average Spanish Light Cavalry

Your army may contain 0 Superior Spanish Light Cavalry
Your army may have a maximum of 8 Superior Spanish Light Cavalry

In total you may have a maximum of 12 Spanish Light Cavalry.

Does that make sense?

Just to make sure I understand this fully…

I could take the minimum Average Light Cavalry of 4 bases. Leaving me with 8 to go before maxing out.
The 8 bases could be 2 battle groups of 4 bases of Superior Light Cavalry.

I think I got.

Yes that is one of the legitimate combos you can do

When it comes to more complex rule sets I suggest making a mini checklist of the restrictions. Then when you decide your army comp you just need to go step by step.
