Suggestion: The role of the air force

The best games are those that are easy to play and hard to master. With that in mind my suggestions for the role of the air force.

To keep it simple limit bombers to 4 types:

Light
Medium
Heavy
Superfortress


The larger aircraft

- carry a greater pay load
- have a greater range.

But on the negative side

- require a larger base to operate from


Suggest bombers have only 2 roles:

-to attack enemy production centres thereby reducing enemy production points

-to attack road junctions behind the front lines thereby reducing enemy supplies getting the front


As for fighters, each fighter went through quite a few marks throughout the war. As this is a strategic game it needs to be simple and you could limit the technology to 4 levels. Obviously the lower level is cheaper than the higher levels.


Suggest fighters have only 2 roles

-to intercept enemy bombers

-to escort friendly bombers

In the event of an air battle, the computer does calculations and if any bombers get through they may attack their targets.

For any aircrfat to oprate, the base needs to be a certain size or larger. And so the smaller aircraft could move their bases further forward than could the large aircraft.


Ultimately it is a simple system and would work well.
