Impact Foot - Some Other Comments

Just started playing again after a long layoff. Looking at the POA Table there is a category called Impact Foot. There are Roman infantry called Heavy Foot so I assume they are the same as Impact Foot. Is that correct?

In regards to pursuit I would like to see the option of commanding units not to pursue instead of it being arbitrary.

Finally I am surprised that infantry can evade from cavalry. I would have thought that cavalry being faster could run them down.

Heavy Foot is a troop type. Impact Foot is a combat capability. So units can be both.

It isn't arbitrary, except for raw troops. Cavalry always pursue. Most infantry never pursue. Warband always pursue IF they were the original aggressor in that combat, but don't pursue if they were themselves charged. Raw troops sometimes pursue - on a random roll.

We don't believe that ordering troops not to pursue would work historically. It certainly didn't in various historical battles - e.g. Waterloo to name but one of many.

If it were possible to order troops not to pursue, then most people would do so almost all the time, which would not lead to realistic results.

They can if they start the turn close enough. Although the game does not move the evaders until the cavalry are in the adjacent square, that is purely because it was easier to program it that way. In reality they are assumed to start evading as soon as the cavalry start moving.
