Celtiberians

Post by Eques »

Should the Celtiberians have their own list? Don't know too much about them but would imagine they were pretty different to the other Spaniards in the same way that Galatians were different to the natives of Asia Minor.

Plus the Celtiberians fought some major wars against the Romans in their own right, such as the Numantine war.

Any information on how their armies were constituted?

The ancient Spanish list is quite good. It's not like the Celtiberians had a vast array of troop types. Basically they just had masses of foot...heavy classification feels right for them...known for their impact. Lots of tribal/village/area groups, lots of battle standards. Not particularly known for masses of cavalry. Effective in 10 paks w a commander :) (Rear support is nice too!!)

Actually I take exactly the opposite reaction: Why does FOG differentiate them from the rest of the Iberians? I didn't realize there was a marked contrast in their fighting styles.

Well they were Celts who had migrated to Iberia and kept their culture although with Iberian influences.

So I would suggest they went in for heavier infantry administering massed head-on charges. The other Iberians would maybe have been more missile based and experts in hit and run tactics.
