30 YW campaign round 6 1648

Post by awesum4 »

The Protestants have gained 5 of the 6 Electorates. Can the Catholic Empire strike back or will the flood of reform overwhelm the Palatinate as well...we are about to find out.

One of the Catholics other then Gdod can use Polish 1633-1648.
One of the Catholics, other than Kiwiwarlord or SpeedyCm, can use Spanish 1635-1648
The rest will use German Catholic 1639-1648.

One of the Protestants, other than Doyley50 or MarkLeslie can use Swedish 1635-1648
The rest will use German Protestant 1639-1648.

You have a couple of days to decide if you will use one of the non-German armies, then I will post the matchups, though i am sure you wwill have worked out your opponent for the final round.

The final round is an entirely German affair, the Protestants use German Protestant 1639-1648, the Catholics use German Catholic 1639-1648.
Battle are all open battles, using extra large armies in agricultural terrain.

First player is the invader and sets up the battle, password 1648

MarkLeslie ivades the final Catholic stronghold of the Palatinate held by awesum4

GDod invades Austria to recover it from Snugglebunnies.
KiwiWarlord invades Bohemia to recover it from Lascar
PeterthePainter invades Saxony to recover it from Doyley50
SMJohnso77 invades Bavaria to recover it from AHuyton
SpeedyCM invades Brandenburg to recover it from GentlemanRanker

For awesome4.

Time to cast aside your pestilent Pope and offer up the Palatinate in atonement for your wicked ways. Time to let the real work of the good men of God begin.

I can report the successful defence of Bavaria by my Protestant army, defeating smjohnso77 60-40.

It was another classic game, massive cavalry battles on the flanks and shooting each other to pieces in the centre. Thanks to Steve for a tough and hard-fought encounter.

Seems Snuggles and myself have settled into an uneasy Christmas truce. I'm sure hostilities will recommence in the New Year :D Commiserations Steve, seems there's no stopping the protestant scourge!

News of good tidings from Saxony.

The German Catholics (PeterThePainter) 30% routed, defeated the German Protestants (Doyley50) 59% routed. I owe thanks to markleslie, my previous opponent, for reminding me that you don't have to line all your troops up in a long line parallel to your opponent. Thanks to Doyley50 for the well played game.

Alas, the Catholic foot broke the Protestant centre seemingly effortlessly and the Protestant's cunning plan to outflank the Catholics on their left failed miserably. Good game thanks Peter.

I'm glad the Catholic foot didn't break...it would have made all that genuflecting very difficult

Round 6 Result
Bohemia is once again committed to the Pope and the True Faith !

KiwiWarlord's German Catholic Army (48%) manages a mediocre Victory against Lascar's Protestants (67%)

After a brilliant start the Catholics had a good lead and the Protestants were not looking good, but they turned the tide with brilliant tactics and good use of their troops fighting in co-ordinated attacks.
For many turns the battle could have gone either way.
The Catholics managed to regain the upper hand, applied some heat & broke the Protestants.
Dave played really well and had me on the ropes several times.

The Palatinate has remained the centre of the counter-reformation, holding off the invasion led by MarkLeslie by 60% to 54%.

We established a superiority in the centre with concentrated fore from infantry and artillery conveniently located on a hill in our rear.
Our left wing cavalry fought a protacted fight against his cavalry and a few infantry units.
Our outnumbered right wing cavalry were expected to slowly crumble , but actually collapsed quickly.
The battle raged with very little difference in the sides until right at the end. But his cavalry were always going to struggle against good pike and shot and eventually he broke and ran.

An exciting and fun game against a tough opponent.

GDodd's invasion of Austria against snugglebunnies

SpeedyCM's invasion of Brandenburg against GentlemanRanker.

Our match is grinding to a bloody finish but I'm out of town for a couple of days so it won't conclude for maybe another week.
