Defensive bonus

Been following Soren's Manstein campaign and just about done with the 43 campaign. It's been a challenge but every now and then fun things happen and this time the hero generator went nuts. On the third turn, Lent picked up a +3 defensive hero and later in the same scenario, one of my HE-177A's picked up another +3 defensive hero. Squeaked out a decisive but unlike Soren, my guys always take more damage than I like but I'm looking forward to seeing if the defensive bonuses make a difference later on.

Have any of you found that they help much?

Lent D3 might be useful later on, for example if you upgrade him to Stuka, you can attack AA with ease, or when you upgrade him to FW the bomber version
The HE 177 with defense + 3, you might take more chances when attacking, but not useful really

Strategic bombers are good with D3 hero. Attack is a bit better, but as strat bombers work best with high overstrength which is expensive. Anything that reduces the chance of losing the overstrength, whether against fighters, AA or whatever, is good. With +3D, it will be very resistant to damage in cloudy weather when attacking AA guns.
