Sevastopol Assault experience

Post by PanzerTum »

My first city fighting scenario as I did not reach streets of Moscow.
I converted 2 Pz III to IIIN, maybe next time I will convert 1 or 2 more.
Left the StuGIIIF at home as they are vulnerable in cities I think.
I was reasonably satisfied with how things went in North Sevastopol.
I still have a lot to learn with unit positioning. In smaller unit groups I find it easier but in Sevastopol a lot of artillery took damage.
South Sevastopol contained a lot of marine and guard units which I was wary to advance upon. Also the strong concentration of Russian artillery and painful air defense unit made it more difficult.
And the KV-5..
In the south I had to break the stalemate with several suicide attacks with Rudel and my level bombers. Rudel can somehow survive that but the level bombers took ample damage.
The marines and guards were very passive, maybe because of my large artillery screen, also the damaged 3 and 4 point units were taking part in this.
Decisive victory in the last turn, an attack by Oleh Dir with his last ammo and a Grenadier unit to defend it in the last allied turn.
Repairs at Voronezh deployment amounted to about 2000 prestige which just shows my lack of positioning and order of battle skills.
And that is excluding the lost overstrength on the level bombers.
For Voronezh I'm thinking a getting a third StuG IIIF and B.
Converted Para with move hero to Grenadier. It's about time they become useful.

Yes, I like them very much. I've used them a number of times to learn what to do for deployment although usually after deployment I play my own game.

Simferopol was impressive how he dismantled Voinka in turn one. Essential learning for surrender tactics.
I did use his tactic for Sedan & Kharkov42 with good results.

Great stuff.
