Las Navas de Tolosa - rebalance?

Post by gribol »

Hello

I have got play this battle with Snugglebunnies, and i think, that taking out of control 12 Almohads units (4 guards, 8 Lancers) makes this scenario unplayable for the Almohads.
Have you got maybe some tricks to share, how they can win this scenario without 12 best units?
Maybe some kind of changes are needed here?

I wonder what the scripting is for the lancers - is it proximity of the enemy, or a timer? If a timer, maybe I should have pushed in and attacked sooner... but I don't know if that would have been any more successful, it felt critical to get light spear cavalry behind first, and that takes time. The best way to kill knights is ranged units, and the best way to survive them is broken ground. But the Almohads have parity of ranged infantry and inferior Medium Foot, so shooting down knights and holding the rough patches both are bad choices. Next best choice is a surround, which is what I was making good progress toward when the 8 lancers just dipped out, in addition to the 4 Superior Foot that can just be ignored because they can't move. I was completely at a loss as to what to do.

Here is the match in question:

It's on a simple turn timer. I will see if I can make some changes for a future update, to give the Almohads a boost in the MP version.

Managed to beat this one as the Almohads against another player by surrounding the Spaniards. Sure, the Almohads need some luck to not be entirely shattered by the initial knightly charges, but the Spaniards also need the luck to exploit them properly before they are enveloped.

But if the Spaniards know what's going on, they won't get close before the Almohads cavalry escapes.
