Replay: how to convert a REC file?

Post by LN59 »

Hi!
I just want to know how, or with what tool, we must convert an <Order of Battle:WWII> Replay, therefore a REC file,
into a video format that is recognized by YouTube (MP3 or MP4 for example).
This is in order to upload it to the game's Steam community ...
Thank you in advance for your help! :)

There are softwares to record video games on PC.

There are people here on this forum who make replay videos, ask them how they do it

Terminator,

One last question and I won't bother you with this topic anymore!

If I understand your remark correctly, the REC format is specific to <OoB:WWII> and isn't a video format benefiting from a recognized standard.
I will therefore have to launch, in addition to the game, a video capture software for what happens on the screen while playing.
Apologies for this complete beginner's insistence ...
But having carefully read the 45 pages of the <Tech Support> thread before writing my first post, I didn't find an answer ...
Now I will take your advice!

Best Regards, LN59 :D

Yeah, but I don’t know anything about how to how to save your PC screen to video.
Apparently, you can record a video of everything that happens on the screen of your Windows 10 PC using the Xbox Game Bar built into the operating system :

Thank you for those precious hints, Terminator.
Unfortunately my OS is older but <Order of Battle> works perfectly under it (latest version and DLCs).
I will update this last post as soon as I get the information, so that it can eventually be useful to other players.
Either by an internet link, or by a summary ... or both!
Thank you again, and congratulations to everyone for this excellent game, its expansions, its follow-up and its so active and open-minded community.

I got curious too if it's possible to record yuor gameplay. As I use Win 10 all I had to do was press Windows+G and the Xbox bar someting opens and I can start to record. have to find out how I get the sound from the game recorded too... but I see you use Win 7 and thats not supported i think. I did find an article in a PC magazine about it and they recommended a free software https://www.apowersoft.com/free-online-screen-recorder. Good luck

Thanks a lot, Halvralf! But I continue to look for a solution, not trusting too much online video capture ...
Mania of "grandpa gamer", I prefer to use free or shareware software installed locally (on my PC).

Sorry to be late to the party, but yes, that's about it.

The OoB REC file can only be used to replay scens within the game.

Do you know that you can upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 legally and for free by doing the update from the Microsoft site ? It’s easy, I did it several times without any problem.
For Windows 11, this is another problem, you need a recent PC apparently.

So I did record a whole scenario in Blitzkrieg, Fall Rot (Fall of France). I used the Windows+G to get the Xbox bar up and started recording in 60fps high quality. THe Scenario too about an hour to play and I watched it and it was very nice and I got the gamesound recorded aswell. I was so happy about it I thought I's share it on the forum and started to ZIp the file..... it took forever...... file was 17Gigabyte!!!!!!!! So no more recording until I get more diskspace! :D

No 4K monitor or gameplay.

I gonna try to record another in 30fps (recommended setting) and normal (also recommended)

Normal recording with Windows recorder done. At normal (default) settings I recorded 1hour 6 mins gameplay. The size of the file this time was 5,69 GB. Fun part is thet if I try to compress the file with 7.zip it ends up almost the same size.

Haha terminator, it wasn't me that was interested in making gameplay videos. I was just testing to see the result :-)

The Rec files are just saved sequences of game actions (which is how you can play them back in stages and also "step in" to replays.

You'll need to use software like OBS to record the game output if you wish to stream/upload videos of play.
